(Praise and worship service consisting of songs and scripture readings in Haitian Creole and French (no English translation currently available). Worship service lasts about 1 ½ hours.)

As this new worship community grows, we’re looking for volunteers who can help make each gathering possible. Opportunities include serving with the worship band, slides and tech, hospitality, facilities, setup and cleanup, and other behind-the-scenes needs. Whether you speak Haitian Creole or simply have a heart to serve, we’d love to help you find a place to get involved.

Been’s Background
Been Valcin grew up in Port au Prince Haiti where he served as a worship leader at Delmas 53, a Free Methodist Church located in the Haitian capital. There he participated in community outreach, led bible studies and small groups, served as a youth ministry leader, and co-led a choir with 143 members that toured in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. That choir, Ti Zwazo, visited Western New York, including Edgewood FMC in September 2008. Been moved to Rochester in 2010 when he married his wife Kate. Since moving to Rochester, he has stayed connected to the Haitian community while working in public health and substance use disorder treatment and prevention. Been and Kate have four children Kayla, Danielle, Liaam, and Hevricks.

The Vision
Been has felt an increasing call on his heart to build a Haitian community of worship like the one he left behind in Haiti. There are about 1,500 Haitians that live in Monroe County, with more in surrounding communities. The nearest Haitian Free Methodist churches are in Montreal, Boston, Connecticut, and New York City. The opportunity to develop a community where God can be worshiped through songs sung in Creole and French is an incredible opportunity to grow God’s kingdom.
